Government Funding
Medical Aids Subsidy Scheme (MASS)
http://www.health.qld.gov.au/mass/communicationaids.asp
Mass is the main provider of subsidy funding for the provision of aids and equipment to Queensland residents with permanent and stabilised conditions or disabilities. Some points to consider when applying for funding:
- Aids and equipment are subsidy funded either on a permanent loan basis, private ownership or through the purchase of consumables
- Aids and equipment will not be provided when the main intent is for use to access the community including school and work
- If funds are not available immediately, the applicant may have to wait for equipment (except for some specific ‘no wait’ items). MASS will advise if the applicant is to be placed on a waiting list
There are two main MASS centres:
- Brisbane MASS service centre Ph: 3250 8651 for clients residing in the area from the
NSW border to south of Sarina OR
- Mackay MASS service centre Ph: 4968 3931 for clients residing in the area from Sarina
northwards and west to the state border.
*** There will be a temporary increase in subsidy levels for applications received on or after 1 September 2008 and up to 31 December 2008. The allocated subsidy for Speech Generating Devices will increase to $5,000.
